Making homemade greeting cards is a hobby that many people enjoy including
myself use as a way to send various types of greetings, whether it be thank you note,
an invitation or as birthday greeting.
The decorating of the card is the crafting part, but sometimes it can take just as much time and effort to come up with a message
or verse to use in the card. Verses or poems can be used to add heartfelt or even comical messages to your cards.
Whether you make your own cards from blank stationery or are just looking for something to stand out from the traditional mass-produced sentiments, creating a personal greeting card verse can show your card’s recipient just how much you care. You don’t have to be a poet or professional writer to create a memorable greeting card verse; just look around you for inspiration to get your writing juices flowing.
You could just let your poetic creativity run free by creating your own greeting card verse with rhymes featuring your recipient’s name. It's easy to create a quick poem using names that have common sounds, but with a little assistance you can do the same activity with less common, foreign or difficult sounding names.
Just plug your recipient’s name into a free Internet rhyming tool such as Rhyme Zone or Write Express, which will instantly search for appropriate rhyming words. You’ll even have the option to specify whether you want the entire name used or just a
part of it. This should help you broaden your search if the person’s name doesn’t seem to rhyme with anything. There are no rules to making your own rhyming verses, so create your own words, use rhyme words that don’t usually go together or blend names and words to make a memorable impact.
There are many other easier options for verses or poems available for you to use
without you having to create your own. You could search the internet for poems or verses that fit your occasion for example
"Birthday Verses" or "Valentines Verses" e.t.c. If you have books of poetry, find a poem or verse from the books to use.
Once you have found something suitable type the poem or verse into your word processing software, or copy and paste it from a web site. Change the font or point size to your preference by clicking the "format." Choose "font" from the drop down menu and adjust the style and size
and maybe just add or change some of the words to make it fit better to
the person you will be sending it to.
Then print the poem or verse with your printer. Cut it out with regular scissors -- or pinking shears for a decorative edge. Use white glue to affix the verse or poem to your card stock and allow it to dry.
